Collectio Musicorum presents Jaufre Rudel and the Lure of the Orient. According to legend, the troubadour Jaufre Rudel, who lived in the first half of the 12th century, fell in love with the Countess of Tripoli from afar, even though he never saw or met her. He travelled to Lebanon to be with her, but died upon reaching his destination. The troubadours were poet/musicians who from the south of France and who wrote in Occitanian (sometimes also called Provencal), a language related to Catalan. The story of Rudel's unrequited love and his arduous journey to be united with his mysterious maiden has inspired poets throughout time.
Collectio Musicoum examines this story, and performs all the surviving music by Rudel, along with some by his friend Marcabru and others in the mystical ambience of the Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art, 338 Lighthouse Ave, Staten Island, NY 10306 on Friday, May 9th, at 7:30 PM.
